Symptoms of Kidney Problems

People with chronic kidney diseases often fail to understand the subtle symptoms which can lead to concerning renal issues in future. Though it takes a long time to reach the stage of total kidney failure, it is well advised to have a deep insight into the various signs and symptoms lead to concerning kidney problems.

Changes in Urination
Kidneys are responsible of manufacturing urine and any failure in its function can lead to changes in the excretory functions. Patients may start getting up in the middle of the night to urinate and the passed urine can be bubbly or foamy. There are evident changes in the frequency and quantity of urination, along with obvious changes in its color and density as well.In severe cases, there may be traces of blood in the urine, which is accompanied by a burning sensation, inflammation and increased pressure on the bladder.

Swelling
In most cases, kidneys which fail to function properly end up storing extra fluid in the body-- which leads to swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, arms and/or hands. This generally leads to acute problems in taking care of normal day-to-day life activities along with puffiness on the face and around the eyes.

Fatigue
Healthy kidneys are responsible for making a hormone known as erythropoietin, which tells the body to produce red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen. With a reduction in the production of erythropoietin, there is a marked decrease in the levels of red blood corpuscles in the brain and muscles—leading to further weakness, tiredness and fatigue. Patients start feeling drained of energy and require extra supplements and other medical aids to keep them going.

Skin Rash/Itching
Kidneys eliminate wastes from the body and bloodstream. Poorly functioning kidneys lead to the buildup of wastes in the blood causing skin diseases, rashes and severe itching.

Nausea and Vomiting
A severe buildup of waste in the blood (uremia) can also cause nausea and vomiting. Loss of appetite can lead to weight loss, ammonia breath and a metallic taste in the mouth. Patients tend to feel nauseated all the time and end throwing up even the smallest of meals.

Shortness of Breath
Breathlessness is often related to kidney problems and can cause extra fluid build-ups in the in the lungs along with anemia (which is a shortage of red blood cells in the body.
